We also played a game called "Whats My Rule?". In Irish she taught us about "Ar scoil". We talked about the differences between Ireland and Africa,it was really fun. Next we did some music. We sang "Spancil Hill" and "O Conamara". The next day we concentrated on games from different countries. So far it has been great!

THE RETREAT

On the 8th of March 2010 Ms. Magraths, Mr. Molloys and Mr. Fortunes class went to Emmaus. Emmaus is a Retreat house and a convent in Swords. We went there on a bus and it took about twenty minutes to get there. When we got off the bus we took a short walk around the perimeter of Emmaus. The first thing we did when we went in to the house was sing three songs. There were three people there with us Rose, Therese and Gearoid ( which means Gerard in English). After that we were split into three groups of 13. We went in to small rooms with our leaders and gave some information about ourselves like are name, hobbies and Confirmation name. After that we had a cup of tea and a square bar. When we went back into our groups we had to do a play for the other groups. Then we had big break which was pasta. Most people really liked it and some even went up for seconds. After this we had about half an hour to play outside. When we came back in we had a meditation and talked about the gifts of the holy spirit. Then we sang the three songs again and left Emmaus while singing ''walk in the light'' it was a great day and we'll all remember it.

Wednesday

Ceremony of Light

On Monday, the 1st of March, all the 6th classes went to St.Sylvesters Church at 8pm.At least one parent from every 6th class student had to be there and they had to arrive at around 7:50pm to 7:55.At the beginning we all sang 'Christ be our Light'.After the song Father Tanham welcomed us .During the Presentation of candidates, every parent promised that they would help us to stay away from dangerous drugs. All the children had to make two promises;1.I promise not to take any alcohol until the date stated on my Commitment Card and I ask the Holy Spirit to help me keep this promise.2.I promise always to avoid dangerous drugs and to help other people to do the same.I ask the Holy Spirit to help me keep this promise. The next song we sang was 'Close to You '.Father Paul told us a story about light. The story was about a man who went to a stadium and asked to turn off the lights.Once all the lights were off the man turned on his lighter and everyone could see the tiny flame, because, though the light was small it was powerful. After the story, some students read some readings.Keith, from our class, read great. Then, after the readings,Father Paul told his homily. The Prayers of the Faithful and Alex's dad read great.Once the Prayers of the Faithful were read, some students went up to light the Paschal Candle and Claire represented our class.Once the Paschal Candle was lit, some adults went up to get some of the flame to light everybody elses candles. When the candles were lit,Father Paul told the parents to give us our candles.Once we had our candles,we had to blow them out,but before we blew them out the whole church looked really nice. Our final song was 'Be not Afraid'.Before we left,we got blessed and we all shook hands with Father Paul and Father Tanham.

Bye for now!!!!

Friendship Week!!

It was Friendship Week in the last week of Febuary in Oliver Plunketts. The week started off by each of us getting a special person that we had to be nice to for a whole week! We each picked out different people and we had to do nice things for them without them figuring it out. It was really hard to keep it a secret!!! Some boys got girls and some girls got boys. We all had a class discussion about the good qualities you need in a friend. The things that came up were kindness, loyalty, fun and good sense of humor. On the last day of friendship week we all had to write a poem with our secret friend. Most of the friendship poems rhymed and others didn't. At the end of the week each of us had to play a game of guess who got you to try and figure out who got you for friendship week. It was great fun doing nice things for people in secret, it was a great week and we enjoyed it alot!!!
